LIFE DESIGN STUDIO

In my Life Design Studio, I was asked to delve into where I want to go in my future career and what I want out of my Bachelor's degree. The main intent behind this design studio was to help us create a realistic approach to our intended career while preparing us for scenarios and questions we may encounter with potential employers. It gave us the tools to have a thorough and concise understanding of challenges we may face while also preparing us for the realities of our career field. Not only were we asked to design our future in our most likely career, but also other futures that we could see ourselves pursuing. My favorite part of this process was creating a future that had zero restraints from money or real-world consequences. I have always wanted to own a cozy little cottage-style bookstore in a sleepy town where I can engage with others while sharing the joy of my interests without a fully structured environment. Designing this lifestyle brought me back to when I was little and my friends and I would use large sketch pads to create our dream houses with slides for stairs and bounce house bedrooms. Having the chance to delve into my dream world also helped to shape my realistic five-year plan. It allowed me to still enjoy the whimsical aspects while adding structure and practicality to the life design. In other sections of this ePortfolio, I have detailed out what my nearest future career plans to be, as well as some hopes of what it could turn into.

Career Profiles

In this image, I have created different profiles for career based on different constraints. As mentioned above, I created a profile "without constraints" detailing out a career owning a bookstore. The yellow portion shows the possible career paths I could take based on interests and what they would involve.

Butterfly Moments

In this portion of the Life Design Studio, we were asked to create a flow chart based on "Butterfly Moments", moments that brought us to where we currently are. Each of these career moments have slowly brought me back to the teaching realm, from when I first went to Ball State to begin school for elementary education to massage school and instruction to my current BGS intent of secondary education. This portion of the design studio allowed me to reflect on everything I had experienced in the past and how it was affecting my current career choices.
